Major Benefits of Reading for Students

If you don’t like reading, you will never get the invaluable benefits it offers. Reading is one of the most beneficial and feasible daily activities we can do. Unfortunately, many people don’t like reading. For them, reading is unimportant or even just a waste of time. This attitude might be caused by a misunderstanding of the advantages reading can offer. This essay discusses some main benefits of reading for students. ‌

Firstly, reading can make you smarter. Reading is the main way to get knowledge and information. It is said knowledge is the key to success. By having broad knowledge you can live better. Knowledge enables you to make better decision. It helps you to move ahead in life. Reading also facilitates better understanding about specific topics that interest you. Thus, reading makes your brain sharper and makes you smarter and wiser. Reading is also an effective memory-booster. Reading and memory are interrelated concept. When you are reading, you are training your brain.

Next, reading reduces stress. Reading is the best way to relax your brain. Psychologists believe this is because the human mind has to concentrate on reading and the distraction of being taken into a literary world eases the tensions in muscles and the heart. According to A 2009 study at University of Sussex in the UK, reading for as little as six minutes can reduce stress by up to 68 percent. So, if you want to reduce your stress, take interesting books and read them. ‌

Thirdly, reading improves language skills. A research using the Author Recognition Test (ART), a test with the most accurate results to find out someone’s reading skills, showed that those who read intensively had about 50 percent greater vocabulary and 50 percent more fact-based knowledge than those who did not. Reading affects the vocabulary and the global fact-based knowledge you have. The more words you learn, the better your ability to read and understand, including other fields that are not related to your expertise.

A person who reads will be more successful than those who don’t. Reading is also not difficult because it ia also fun. No entertainment is so cheap as reading or any pleasures so lasting”. So, to grow more successfully, we must love reading. Take the time and take the books to read every day. By so doing, you will get extraordinary benefits of reading.
